Oltmann G. Siemens was admitted in 1975 as Attorney to the Court of Appeal in Hamburg, Germany and worked there as associate at the law firm Ohle, Hansen, Ewerwahn. Previously he worked at the Max-Planck-Institute for Foreign and International Private Law. Prior to joining the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in Washington, D.C., in 1979, Mr. Siemens was since 1977, Deputy General Counsel of the German Investment Corporation (DEG) in Cologne. In 1991, he took a leave of absence from IFC to take up an appointment as Director of Treuhandanstalt (THA), the privatization agency for East Germany, in Berlin. While there, he was also appointed Managing Director and Special Representative of Treuhand Eastern Europe Advisory Company (wholly owned by THA) to advise governments and privatisation agencies of transformation and developing countries on their privatisation programs. In 1994, Mr. Siemens returned to IFC in Washington D.C., where he worked as Principal Counsel until he took up his appointment in May 1998 as the Resident Representative of the World Bank Group for Germany. As IFC’s Special Representative in Europe, Mr. Siemens is also responsible as of July 2001 for Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.
