Background:

Borys Dackiw has been an international partner of Baker & McKenzie since 1995 and became managing partner of the Prague office in July 2001. Previously, Mr. Dackiw was the resident managing partner in Baker & McKenzie’s Kyiv office in Ukraine. Mr. Dackiw is also a member of Baker & McKenzie’s Policy Committee.

Prior to joining Baker & McKenzie, Mr. Dackiw practiced corporate and commercial law in New York and spent several months in Ukraine at the invitation of the Council of Advisors to the Parliament of Ukraine. In this capacity he assisted several Parliamentary Commissions in drafting legislation and advising on legislative reform.

Practice Focus:

Mr. Dackiw specializes in mergers and acquisitions, securities and capital markets and corporate law.

Practice Description:

Mr. Dackiw led a team of lawyers advising Deutsche Bank with respect to the privatization by the Czech Republic of Ceske Radiokomunikace a.s., the largest television and radio transmission operator in the Czech Republic and in the privatization of 51.1% of Cesky Telecom, a.s. from the National Property Fund of the Czech Republic. He also acted for Rotch Energy, as bidder in the privatization of Unipetrol a.s., a holding company controlling the majority of refinery and petrochemical businesses in the Czech Republic. While in Ukraine, Mr. Dackiw acted for Schroders (currently Schroder Solomon Smith Barney) in advising the Government of Ukraine on the privatization of the electricity sector.

Education:

Mr. Dackiw received a bachelor's degree from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he graduated magna cum laude, and earned his law degree from Columbia University Law School. Mr. Dackiw also received a master’s degree in International Policy Studies from Stanford University in June 2001, while on sabbatical from the Firm.
